I’m still trying to figure out how to be the all-things-festive mom. I have friends who dress their homes from their foundations to the rooftops in holiday décor. They use patriotic themed placemats and napkins and serve fruity drinks with umbrellas on Independence Day. The smell of warm, clove wine fills the air during Christmas and every corner of their home is adorned with old fashioned Santas, Polar Express trains, and pine needle wreaths and garland. I love it! But that’s a lot of muss and fuss, and life is crazy busy.
I may never muster the energy the go full on for every single holiday, but there are quick, easy ways to whip up a spirit filled home. For starters, I’m filling a bin with adorable aprons and oven mitts that coincide with seasons, and fabric manufacturers are making it very convenient.
In recent years, designers have created cute, seasonal aprons and oven mitts on single panels. Win-win! It’s an affordable way to be that “hip” parent who decorates for every occasion, and I don’t have to recreate the wheel every single year. I just keep that bin handy—in a linen closet near the kitchen, and voila! In a flash, I’m wearing a flag apron and serving and serving red, white and blue Jello shots for the 4th of July (Shirley Temple style for the kids, loaded for their parents), and taking Christmas cookies out of the oven with my Grinch oven mitts. And honestly…my kids LOVE it! I’m all about creating fond memories and holidays to remember.
Want to make these aprons and mitts with your own fabrics? Easy… Buy one panel, cut it out, and make a pattern by tracing it onto thin card stock (school style poster board comes to mind) or butcher paper. (Don’t forget to transfer all the markings.) You can use your own fabrics for quick, festive “mom gear” for any occasion.
Check out some of these panels to add adorable style to your holidays. They’re quick, easy and affordable. And you look like the cool mom and dad who goes all out for every celebration. Have fun with it and make some great memories. Cheers!!
